- 1936 - Born in Parepare, Sulawesi Selatan, Indonesia.
- 1954 - Study at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) a year later he chose to continue his education at the Rhenisch Wesfalische Tehnische Hochscule (RWTH), Aachen, Germany. Young Habibie spent 10 years completing his undergraduate to postgraduate studies in Aachen-Germany.
- 1960–1965 - Assistant Riset, Chair and Institute for Lightweight Construction (Pimpinan dan Lembaga Konstruksi Ringan), Rheinisch-Westfaelische Technische Hochschule (RTWH), Aachen, Jerman.
- 1965-1966 - Special Scientist, Hamburger Flugzeugbau (HFB) GmbH, Hamburg, Jerman.
- 1966–1969 - Head, Structural Analysis Research and Development Section, HFB GmbH, Hamburg, Germany - 1968 Messerschmitt AG merged with Bolkow GmbH to become Messerschmitt-Bolkow GmbH - 1969 Messerschmitt-Bolkow GmbH merged with Hamburger Flugzeugbau to become Messerschmitt-Bolkow-Blohm (MBB) GmbH.
- 1969–1973 - Head, Commercial and Military Aircraft Technology and Methods Division, MBB GmbH, Hamburg, Germany.

- 1978-1998 - President Director of Perum Dok and Shipyard - formed 29 Mar'78 from the Naval Upgrading Command (KONATAL), before 1970 named Penataran Laut (PAL) - now PT PAL Indonesia (Persero).
